Collaboration with Partners

RECDOT partnered Liliane Fonds, Netherlands/The Leprosy Mission, Nigeria (TLMN) in tandem with the resolution prescribed by GCE (GAWE).

She also worked with principals of the schools she had invited, teachers and Parents of children with disability.  The Ekwusigo Local Government Secretariat, as well as, the commissioner for social welfare, children and women affairs was pivotal partners to the success of this remarkable event.

Output: 

                 Ultimately, over 800 individuals sensitized in the following ways:

  • An understanding of disability issues promoted
  • Support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons living with disabilities mobilized
  • Awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons living with increased 

Challenges Encountered:

Due to the overwhelming security issues and the scary impact of the Omicron COVID 19 variant in this region, some prominent individuals and schools could only send few representatives, while others were absent altogether.

Recommendations:

While she particularly appreciate the support provided by LF/TLMN towards achieving a successful 2022 edition of the RING the BELL’ event, RECDOT humbly use this medium to recommend more of this accomplishing programmes that reaches to the very heart of the society, re-orientating negative mindsets, while ensuring equity, inclusiveness as well as, positive cohabitation in our societies. Continuous commitment to these programmes will ultimately provide greater platform for:

  1. Curbing discriminatory attitudes and perceptions of the society towards Persons with disabilities (PWDs).
  2. Integrating disabled people into the mainstream of society, especially in the area of INCLUSIVE EDUCATION.
  3. Promoting public awareness
  4. Creating conditions in which people with disabilities do not suffer discrimination, and participate in decisions that affect them.
